Dilemma

Acrylics, ink, sand, glass beads, collage, salt, and coffee on wood panel

48 x 60 inches

This piece is an attempt to visually connect all 5 senses both literally and physically, create a creature and give it a life of its own. The form is a representation of the anatomy of the ear; hammer, anvil, and stirrup, and the piece smells (coffee), cuts upon touch (glass beads & sand), and has transferred images of musical notes of my favorite scale: G Major (it contains F#—sharper than F, but flatter than G) on its surface. By accident, through a chemical reaction that happened within the materials I used, this piece is molding so it is alive. This piece belongs to Brown University Permanent Collection.
